  • Mixing for dance music has its own specific generic rules but it doesn't mean that its the only way. There will always be a way around.

This is my first module for an online audio engineering course. I of course will not post the exact details as to how I edited every single track. Listen to the raw files and edited files and compare the enormous difference between the two.

    Enjoy!

  • Johanne Pachelbel wrote this very wonderful classical composition and it has shattered the boundaries of culture, race and almost every human barrier that we set up. All of us understands that this is one of the best music written on paper and heard by the human ear.

In our modern world now where music is constantly evolving, Jerry Chang a Taiwanese composer gave his first version on this classical Canon in D Major and posted it on youtube. The video went viral and his rock version has no doubt captured the attention of our modern taste for music.

If you are really having a hard time playing this music by ear, then here is a transcription for you of Canon Rock in D major by Jerry C.

Magandang Gensan! Here are a few guitar exercises you can try out so you can improve your playing.

This maybe easy for some of you but for others this will come in handy.

EXERCISE 1: The goal of this exercise is to acquaint your fingers to the diatonic scale of any major scale. The exercise below is written in C Major but you can play it in all keys so to give your fingers the dexterity it needs to play diatonic major scales.

Play the video to help you understand how this exercise sounds like

Exercise 2: Is a scale of ascending thirds. The goal of this exercise is to learn how to run a scale of thirds and the skipping of an interval. You can find a lot of guitar soloing involving the use of this type of exercise

Play the video to help you more understand how this exercise sounds like

Exercise 3: This is exercise is a derivation of the first 2 exercise. Using the triplets to run the diatonic major scale, this exercise can be a bit hard at the beginning but it comes very handy on any given situation.

Notes: This free exercises are meant to be played slow at first then GRADUALLY increase your speed. Remember if you play it fast and not playing it clean, your finger muscles will remember the mistakes you are committing instead of the proper execution which these exercises require. So play them carefully and slowly at first. Only then will you be able to play it at high speed.

    "Tips for buying a Guitar"

  • Are you planning on buying your very own guitar for the first time? Or maybe you are already on your way to becoming a professional guitarist and is still planning to buy another guitar you want to use? Either ways it really would help a lot if you yourself did your homework before hitting the road to the music stores.

    Electric Guitars vs Acoustic Guitars

Now you  should consider first of all "what you need" and not "what you want." You must think again what are you motives for buying a guitar, if you are planning to do rock music then an electric guitar would really suite your needs since it has a different feel on the fret board compared to an acoustic guitar. If you want to play folk or classical music then an acoustic guitar would fill the need the to buy your own guitar. If you are a beginner I would suggest buying an acoustic guitar first although it really is up to you and your budget.

    New or Second-hand Guitar

Now this is where the issue on budget management comes into place. A brand new guitar has its own ups and downs as well as a second-hand guitar. First stop would be a brand new guitar and would most likely be the first choice of any consumer that goes into the music store. Warranty would be one of the most important aspect any customer would want to have whenever purchasing something from the store. A brand new guitar would sound better and would assure the buyer that it would last a bit longer compared to a slightly used one.

If you are on a tight budget though, buying a second-hand guitar isn't that bad at all although warranty issues are coming right in front of your door since you aren't assured as to how long your instrument would last. Be very sure to check your instrument closely for any damages that would affect the sound and durability of your guitar. But then again, the real key factor here is your budget.

    Brand and Models

There are so many outstanding guitars on the market today and I suggest you do your own research on what to buy. The internet is full of reviews and comments on each and every single model and brand of any certain guitar. So I suggest you really must dig up the details about this one. If in case you really can't tell the difference, I would suggest that you bring a professional or a trusted friend who plays the guitar better than you do so that he can help you out on what brand or model of a guitar would satisfy your needs.

Not to mention, for electric guitars, the sound of every musical genre requires different electric guitar models. Well that is partly true and false, since any good guitarist can adjust the sound of there guitars to the genre they have to play but there really does exist certain guitars designed for certain types of music.

To wrap things up, experience would play a very important factor to selecting a guitar so if this is your first time then find someone whom you can rely on this matter.

  • This video here is a promotional clip for the song "Paghinayhinay" by R.O.B. Band. The songs ranks number one being the most requested Lokal na Tukar on MOR FM Station General Santos. Other local songs are following and aiming for the top post right now.

R.O.B. stands for Riot On Boulevard headed by J.L (pardon for not remembering his fullname) and is only a three piece group. You got your drummer and bassist plus the guitar man while doing the vocals at the same time and that pretty much describes how this band operates on stage.

Considered as one of the longest existing local bands (although not the longest) they still continue to ring the air with their music even though these guys are working full time. Right after office hours these dynamic trio never fails to find time to meet and crank up their music, let alone make it to the top spot for the local fm station.

So please do support our local talents, and it so happened that they are one of them. Remember the name, R-O-B (Riot On Boulevard) Band.
